About GroWild

GroWild, Inc. is a Tennessee plant nursery specializing in native North American plants. GroWild has over 950 species and cultivars of native perennials, wildflowers, trees, shrubs, vines, and grasses. We are growers and will sell to the public by appointment. To visit the nursery, please call and schedule a time.

We pay special attention to the provenance of our plants. The great majority of our inventory is propagated on-site and most originates from the mid-South. In fact, much of our stock comes from Middle Tennessee and a surprising amount is a local genotype native to GroWild’s own 127 acres of beautiful hills and hollows.

GroWild History

When we started GroWild, Inc. in 1997, we were on a mission. We both believed that a nursery specializing in top quality native plants could be a successful business as well as a powerful platform for advancing the use of native plants in modern landscapes.

Time has shown that our initial vision was right on the mark. Today GroWild is recognized as one of the leading native plant nurseries in the eastern U.S. We’ve become a well-known source of quality native plant material for a multitude of designers and landscape architects, with new converts coming on board all the time.

Breakout Sessions – there will be 2 rounds

Container Vegetable Gardening with Dr. Bethany Wolters

If you don’t have a large yard or don’t want to weed the whole garden, container-grown vegetables might be for you. Come learn what type of containers to use, get suggestions for vegetable varieties to grow, and other tips for a successful harvest this summer.

All About Trees with Shannon Baughman

This breakout session will cover choosing the right tree to plant and its proper care. We will discuss the basics of tree structure and condition when purchasing a tree, and proper planting and placement of the new tree. The “how, when, what, and why” to prune a tree will also be discussed.

Shannon Baughman, Certified Arborist & UTM Grounds Maintenance Dept. Shannon has been working in the field of Arboriculture for the past 33 years. He has a B.S. in Forest Resource Management with a Specialization in Urban Forestry from Iowa State University. He is currently working in the Grounds/ Maintenance Dept. at UTM.

Soil Facts for Success with Ryan Winchester

Ryan Winchester – Soil Conservationist, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

The NRCS demonstration will consist of a rainfall simulator. We will be showing how rainfall affects different ground covers. We will show a conventionally-tilled plot to simulate a garden or row crop field that has been run through with a tillage implement, a no-till system where there is no tillage pass prior to planting, a no-till system with cover crop implemented, which is a cover planted in the fall to keep the ground covered and is then terminated prior to planting, and a pasture plot with a cool season grass mix such as fescue/orchardgrass/clover mix. We will be showing the differences between runoff and infiltration among the different systems.
