City of Martin Assists Union City with Emergency Water Service
April 9, 2025 – MARTIN, TENN. : In response to the recent flooding and a major water main break beneath the Obion River, the City of Martin is providing emergency water service to assist Union City and the Midway community. This cooperative effort will temporarily restore water access to approximately 75 Union City residential customers who are currently without service.
At the request of Union City, Martin’s Public Works Department is supplying water through a temporary tie-in at Stanley Terrell Road. Crews are laying a 2-inch poly pipe from Final Flight Outfitters to a Martin fire hydrant located at the intersection of Stanley Terrell Road and Highway 431. The connection is expected to be completed by 12:00 noon on April 9, 2025, and the temporary service should remain in place for a few days while permanent infrastructure repairs are completed.
“We’re happy to help our neighbors in this time of need,” said City of Martin Mayor Randy Brundige. “Flooding has caused major problems in our area and left families without water. The City of Martin is more than happy to offer support to Obion County and the Midway community.”
Randall Winston, Director of Public Works for the City of Martin, added, “This kind of situation shows the heart of our public works teams. They’ve been out there working hard, problem-solving in real time, and doing whatever it takes to get the job done. I’m proud of the way both cities have come together to help those in need.”
What Martin Customers Need to Know
Due to the additional demand on the system, Martin customers in nearby areas may experience a temporary drop in water pressure as the new connection stabilizes. These effects should be minimal and short-lived.
If any customer experiences extended issues or has concerns, they are encouraged to contact Martin Public Works during business hours (7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) or the Martin Police Department after hours to report.
While Martin’s system remains unaffected by the water quality issues, please note that the Midway community remains under a boil water notice as a precautionary measure.
